Derick Mendez recreated a character called Vaporeon from the popular TV show Pokemon. This piece was made using pastels, colored pencils, and crayons. The part that stands out to me the most was the small scribbles here and there. It gives this picture a very strong sense of childhood innocence. All the different lines and colors keep my eyes moving all over the picture.
All the different colors lead my eye from place to place. I think the color in this pieces was used perfectly. It feels like the artist used any spare color pencil they found lying around. Much how like a kid would do it. I believe the colors symbolize innocence and youth. If I could give any name to this piece, I would just simply name it childhood, because it reminds me of the kind of 'masterpieces' I would make as a child. The picture gives me a very nostalgic feeling. Not many pictures can do that for me.
